Temps reached almost 60 on Sunday here in NY. But it was very windy, steadt at 15mph with higher gusts. Nonetheless, my CGSP held temps from 250 to 275 for four and a half hours. Used a basket of lump to start, added 4 sticks of maple and a half-basket of coals along the way.

I pointed the firebox into the wind, and closed its intake vent 30%. I also closed the smokestack about 30%, with the lid on the wind side. It acts to prevent backdraft into the smoke chamber. I also put up a windscreen a foot away from the firebox. With two large birds in the smoker, everything went well.

Sounds like you got the smoker figured out. Got pics?

Nope, no pics. The description should be info enough... my windscreen is two hi-back patio chairs with a tarp stretched across the backs.

That happened to me once when I was making a pork shoulder! I couldn't get temps above 200. Doing this solved my issues!

lol

That's a bit extreme, but if it works it works. I just use 2 chairs, with the tarp.
