Take a look at this for me and let me know what you think.

Found this on Craigslist real close to me. It says propane fired with wood feed door. $500. Is it worth going to take a look?

At the very least it looks like you have something to work with and it's on a trailer. Offer him $350 and see what he says. It does look pretty rough though. Take a look at it. You will know in about 2 minutes if it's even something you want to get involved with. Unless you have the ability to weld and cut yourself working and modifying these things can get expensive having someone do all the work.

I agree...$350 as a starting price is not unreasonable just from the pics shown here.

I would look at it really hard but 350.00 sounds good here but maybe not to him so be prepared to walk away. But you don't know untill you go and see it. Look for rust holes and rust damage and look at the tires and make sure this thing will pull behind your vechile.

I'd offer $250, and go up from there...Let him tell you why it's worth more

This is what i was planning on. Lowball him and see what happens...heck i might end up pulling it home for that.

If you are really interested I'd be carefull about lowballing him. Sometimes it just pisses people off, kind of a disrespect thing. I have people do that to me on things I am selling. Ends the negotatiations quickly from my end. Take a look and if you are interested in it be fair but not disrespectful.

Check it over before offering him anything. I'd look for thin metal where the rust holes are; check the "propane fired" portion, it doesn't show in the pics; make sure all the doors and hinges work properly and seal well, if the material is too thin, warpage will be evident.

Not much of a trailer, only "okay" as a smoker--it depends on whether or not there is a baffle or something to direct the smoke to the cooking surfaces. If not, it's more like a glorified UDS.

I'm pretty stingy with my money--I wouldn't spend much over $300. If he wants more than that, a better deal will always come along. The problem is you have to be patient. Sometimes, I've waited a couple of years for that majic moment. It's hard to wait that long. Usually, I've had the chance to save up more money than I had and end up with nicer stuff (at a better value) in the long run.

Keep us posted.

I agree with 3montes, be careful Lowballing the guy.

When somebody lowballs me it really hacks me off and pretty much ends the entire thing right then and there.

Be sure to look at it real good, and like others said check it for rust through etc. It looks to be a pretty decent rig, especially if it is plumbed to be gas fired.

Good Luck

I have a formula I go by when someone offers me a really insulting amount;

I tell them straight up that I am insulted by their offer then advise them that for them the price is now firm at what I asked for orginially plus 50% for insulting me and if its not in cash and right now they can take a hike.

I don't deal with people like that and usually escort them off my property.

Trust me on this one...... You don't want to come to one of my Yard sales and low-ball me. Not a good idea to run down my stuff either. That will get you an invitation to leave.

I also have a sign for my front lawn,

No earlybirds ! Ever! No, You are not an exception!
If you're early I will not even sell to you at 9:00am when the sale starts.

I would rather throw stuff away than deal with rude people.

Tossing people off my lawn is one of the real pleasures of having a yard sale, which I hate to do in the first place.

You dont have to be rude to give a lowball offer. Im not just going to show up and tell the guy 250 or im leaving...im going to talk to him and let him show it to me before making an offer. If it turns out im really not that interested i will lowball...like offer $200 low. If the guys seems like hes really wants to move it and acts like he hasnt had any other bites i dont think a lowball is too dangerous. Im a Purchasing Agent...lowballing is my job (literally).
