I have the opportunity to pick up this smoker, never used for free. Obviously the price is right but I have a few questions about this smoker. I have been researching smokers for a few months and was really looking at getting a WSM or a ProQ Elite bullet smoker. I know these are more expensive than free
, but I really wanted to get a quality smoker to help me out in the beginning with keeping temps since I have never smoked before.
My question's on this smoker are basically:
1.) Is it a good smoker? In looking it up online, it looks like it is Brinkmann's ''Heavy Duty'' vertical smoker. Is this true?
2.) Is it going to be a challenge to keep temps up in this smoker?
3.) Are there any modifications that are recommended to this unit? I read something about changing the charcoal basket to hold more fuel?
4.) Is this a good smoker for a beginner to learn on? I don't really want to be fighting this to keep temps and take the fun out of smoking.
Again, it's a free smoker so it's kind of a no brainer to at least give it a try. Any information that anyone has would be greatly appreciated! Here is a picture of the unit:
