Getting Ready for the first smoke

I am going to be starting my first smoke here in a couple hours and I hope it ready for the Gator Bowl (Lets Go Mountaineers!!!) I am smoking a 9lb pork shoulder and some Dutch Wicked Baked Beans. My plans are to put the Pork and smoker and get up to 165ish and finish it up in the oven for the rest of the night. Wish me luck

Also I put on a removal smoke stack so I can keep everything undercover its cold and rainy tonight. Check it out

well the rain stopped and I got rid of the smoke stack and moved the the smoker out from under my porch. I am having a tough time maintaining temperature it is also about 35 degrees out and I am using a unmodified firebox (no basket) with lump charcoal and thowinf in a handful of hickory every hour as well as half a chimney of lit charcoal ever 2 hours. I did however extend the Chimney down to grate level. Temps are ranging from 190 to 250. I am only giving all these details so that I might be able to get some help for future smokes

well 6 hours of smoking internal temp was about 168 I wrapped it up in foil and put it in the oven at 240 hopfully it will be OK for a few hours so I can get some sleep, It looked great and smelled even better I forgot to take a pic before i wrapped it up its 2:30 and I'm tired but I will try to remember when i pull it from the oven.

The setup was pretty impressive, did ya get the temps up and maintained?

Hope everything is turning out alright. If ya have some pics, we'd love to see them! Good luck on this first smoke! PDT_Armataz_01_34.gif

I would call it a success the meat was super tender and it was delicious everyone at the party kept going on about how good it was so I was very happy. I also couldn't believe how good the Wicked baked beans were my wife does not like beans at all but she had at least 3 servings.

Here is the QView
