Just starting out

Virgin here. Been grilling for years, thought I'd take the next step and give smoking a shot. Wanted the Weber 22" SM (my grills are the 14 and 18.5 Weber so it made sense to me) but unfortunately couldn't locate one locally by Christmas. I ended up with a "Similar" unit from Barbeques Galore so the cherry gets popped today.

Been finding a ton of info on the forum and main site and it's a bit overwhelming to be honest so thank you for the information overload. PDT_Armataz_01_23.gif

Gonna be deflowered with an 11lb turkey and pecan. Hoping for something edible later this afternoon.

Welcome Philbie - my experience with BBQ galore is that they usually carry good quality equipment - my gas BBQ is a 15 year old Cookon from there and is still going strong - Good luck with the turkey

Well, it turned out ok. The 11lb turkey cooked much quicker than I thought it would. Basically I think I had way too much charcoal and couldn't get the heat much below 300. Lesson learned. The smoke flavor was pretty close.

The woman loved it, I'm not a big turkey fan to begin with and it was fine. It was a good experiment on a $4 bird. Next on the agenda is a ham followed by a rib roast (a bit more than $4).
