Hi Jacob.... I know that others who have more experience than I with freezer conversions will be along soon to advise you. I do know that there are some freezers that have the wrong kind of insulation in them for conversion to any kind of a hot smoker.
Usually if the freezer is an metal one you are all right but the newer plastic ones aren't always a good idea.

Or You could always make a UDS or Upright Drum Smoker ( some call them Ugly drum smokers ) Many of our members have made them and will be able to help you with one of them.

First off welcome Jacob to SMF. You'll like it here cause there are abunch of good folks here that would just love to help you out with just about anything to do with smoking. We really like to have newbies here because they can bring in a new propective to how things are done. There's nothing like a new set of eyes to give and new way to make things that little differant to make things alittle better. So I hope you know about the Qview here.

Aloha Jacob,

Glad to have you on board. Someone mentioned perhaps looking at a Universal Drum Smoker UDS. It may be an easier build or your next project. Check out Craiglist. If you are on Oahu, there's a guy in Waipahu who is either giving em away or for minimal fee. Have fun and post Q-views of your smokes when you can.

Clarification: The guy in Waipahu has 55 gallon drums either for free or at nominal fee. I did not mean to imply he is giving away UDS.
