Newbie question. I saw a recipe for Maple Syrup bourbon smoked Turkey. It is like this:

Enough water to cover turkey
2 8 oz bottle maple syrup
1 pint burbon
1 tbl pickeling spice

Soak for 2 days and smoke.

Any ideas for an injection to go with this recipe? I was thinking injection the “brine” into the bird, but; the bourbon flavor might be a bit strong. I got a bird from Albertsons @ .39/lb. $6.00 for a 15 lb bird, not bad. Also about how long should this take to cook at 275/300?

Thanks, Britt

Ought to take about 3 hours to smoke that turkey. If you butterfly (spatch) it, you can reduce your cooking time even further.

I'd say the maple syrup flavor is going to be the overriding flavor in that brine and not the bourbon.

I've always liked the cajun butter injections in my birds.

I'd think that if I brined a turkey for 2 days that it would not need an injection of any kind. Poking that bird and trying to inject after 2 days of brining will probably have the injection coming right back at ya.
