will it work? slow cooking summer sausage using a double burner hot plate. old fridge is all plastic inside. thanks

i have a propane ugly drum smoker that i am going to convert to dual hot plate oven but i wanted something insulated. any ideas on insulating the drum? will water heater blanket hold up to this. it will not be exposed to rain, snow. thanks yall. kinda new at this. dj

yes. it will but, it will outgas who knows what aromatic polymers/prtroleum byproducts onto your meat. i would not recommend it at all.

The water heater blanket should work fine, but I can't say for sure without seeing the product. If it has the vinyl face on the outside it could be a problem, as it would melt if it got to hot. I think the metallic covered ones would be better.

good idea forget the fridge and work on the drum.
there is high temp blankets that will work but the water heater one i dont think will take that much heat.
check it out befor ya buy one on the temp ratings.

Are you back to the hot smoke or the cold smoe?? If you are going for the cold smoke then use the UDS and your hot plate method and you should be fine. Maybe use your insulating blanket on the outside of the drum. Then if your going to the hot smoke just use your charcaol as always just not that much right??

i need a blanket that will take around 220 degrees or less . cooking and smoking summer sausage only.

How about a welders blanket?

You could remove all plastic in the fridge and replace with 22ga sheet metal...
