Hi Everyone,

It is cold here...really cold. In fact the wind chill is supposed to be -20° tonight and it is probably -5° windchill right now. We are having a holiday potluck tomorrow at work, and a lot of people have been wanting me to bring in some 'Que. Sooooooo, I fired up the smoker and am going to smoke 10 lbs. of chicken legs. Needless to say, Mrs. Engineer thinks I am nuttier than rat crap in a pistachio factory. My smoker is insulated, so it won't be an issue.

Here I am firing up the charcoal chimney. I just set it on the turkey burner and let-r-rip!


Here is the chicken I'm going to smoke.


Got it rubbed up with a spicy rub, man that's gonna be goooood!


Oh yeah, the wind is blowing...check out the plume out of the chimney.

Dumped into the firepan of my smoker. I will throw a little bit more on top


Chicken is in the smoker taking on some cherry and whatever else I throw at it.

Well, according to her your crazy... And if I was your co-worker I would think that you have lost your mind if you didn't bring that Q in to work tomorrow!!!

I think Mrs Engineer is right. It's nasty out there right now. Best part i guess, is that it'll be a quick smoke. At least you're not attempting a brisket in this crap. But God bless ya for giving this a go.

Dana, looks like you have that Christmas tree in the charcoal chimney...

At least sitting by the smoker you have heat...

My wife just called and she is broke down along I-635 just north of I-35, I had to send a wrecker to get her and tow my truck home...

What do you mean crazy he has to smoke some food. Then it alittle cold out ok and alittle windy too. Well then having taken all of that into mind yepp I think you have really LOST IT dana. No you are doing just what you have to we have an obliation to keep and you need to smoke some food for the guys at work. You cann't let them down. So SMOKE ON BROTHER

I feel for you every time you step out the door into that cold windy situation.
Glad you won't have to struggle through a long 10 hours of that weather.
I'll be thinking of you as I keep warm, sip some vodka, eat a plate of burnt ends and watch some Cannibal! The Musical on blu-ray

Chicken is done...my insulated cabinet worked like a champ. It doesn't even know it is cold out. Here is the chicken in the crock pot ready for the animals at work to tear into it.



I couldn't help but try one of the legs out. Nice and spicy, and I can taste the cherry wood...it was delicious.

Nice legs! Crazy? Not at all...I had my 2 biggest rigs smokin' in near 0* just a couple days ago...didn't bother me a bit.

I like to fire up a smoker or 2 for the guys @ work, too. It seems to add alot to the work environment when everyone can sit down and enjoy a good Bbq feast together. Can't wait for our next quarterly meeting...you just reminded me to finish writing up my menu and grocery list! Thanks!

Dana, the only thing that I can think of that's crazy is knowing you can smoke in cold weather and don't!
