Gas smoker/snack sticks

Well I had to install a valve after my regulator to get my temps down inside smoker. 250 before, 135 now. My question is how many chips should I put in the bowl type pan that this brinkmann smoker has and will they smoke at 135 or will I have to crank it up to get them smoking then turn them down? Also should I put any water in the water pan? This is a great site, I have been doing alot of reading the past couple of days.

If you're going to smoke in a gasser at that low of a temp., light a couple of charcoal briquetts and put in the wood pan with your wood to get the smoke going.

I use chunks of wood instead of chips.... you get a longer smoke out of chunks. You will burn through chips faster than you will with chunks. I can get a full wood box to smoke for 2 - 2 1/2 Hrs. before it is all used up. Good luck!

I would use chips and put the charcaol in the chip pan also to get them started then maybe you can move to chunks.
