I think I have a deal

I client of mine stopped by the other day to check on some rods I have and made me an offer about some hogs he has. I have the chance to buy a 350# hog for $100.00 and he has an appointment for slaughter in a couple of weeks to possess it for another 100. I told him I'd take one and now wish I had taken 2!

Sounds pretty good, but did he guestimate the amount of meat you'd get out of that 350 lb.s It's also nice to know who raised it and what it was fed.

He took me over to his place and showed me the pig and I was impressed with the way he keeps them, not like in the old days and he says it will make over 50%.

Nice, a little over a $1.10 a pound. Where's the Hog-view?

Awesome! We don't get those deals around here.

I don't think I would lose that guys number for the future. It sounds like a good idea for the money you'll be getting some good meat and without all those chemicals and poop in them too. But I would also talk to him about handling the meat I'm sure that the rules are differant with a real fresh pork meat an all. but I would liked to have seen the hog Q for sure.

Well I got the meat back, the hog grossed 370#'s and netted me 268#'s with no internal parts. I did have a small amount of bacon and sausage done there but I will be doing most of it myself. Sorry for not having pictures, my computer went down and I bought a new one and don't have everything loaded up yet. total price on hog and prosessing was $250.00, under $1.00 per pound and I have a pretty full freezer. Now if I can get a deal like that on a beef........ With the deer and pork I'm good for a while.

Major congratulations to you! That was a lot of yield outta that hog as well as an unbelievably low price for it plus processing. We get our beef by the half from local cattlemen that way and it is the best way to go. You're gonna be eating well, buddy!

How did he package it, and are they marked? As mentioned beefore that is a good buy. Now you can make what ever you want as far as bacon, hams, sausage.. I think I know who will be looking at some recipes on the forum.

I had them package most stuff into 1# packages except for the bigger stuff I wanted to smoke and then I had them grind everything else into ground pork so I didn't have to grind it, these people were awesome and would do anything I wanted, they will have my business since they are about an hour drive and very much worth it. Of course they had there meat counter display there so we also stocked up on some really great cheese and I tryed some of there smoked beef sticks, they were ok but thats all.

Nice Deal

Nice deal, you couldn't hardly pass that up.
I just read in the paper here in eastern Ohio that a meat processor wants $1.60/pound on half a hog. So you got a real good deal.
Nothing like fresh ribs and butts.

Good deal,

I get a Beef deal every year, For Christmas Mom and Dad take one of their raised beefs to the butcher and my sister and I split it... Just gotta pick it up !!

As for pork we can buy slaughter weight pigs, Reeally don't know the weight, for 100.00 ish and butcher it in the shop. So for about 150 we have hog to eat!!
