Wagon-Master Camp Stew in a DO

Wagon-Master Camp Stew in a Dutch Oven on a wood fire.

Attachment 23146

Beef in 1" cubes browning in Dutch Oven. Add onion, garlic.

Attachment 23147

Add carrots and celery.
Add water, gravy mixes, bay leaves, thyme, sugar, worcestershire sauce, paprika, and tobasco.

Add corn, beans, peas, potatoes. Sweet potatoes in the coals.

Attachment 23149

Cover & add hot coals on top. Simmer for 45 minutes.

Finished.

Is that a 12" Lodge DO?

How long did the sweet potatoes take, cause I can never get them to finish when the rest of the stuff does.

Boy thats nice looking stew, great for a cold windy day at camp. Really warms you up.

Nothing better than a good stew.

I don't use lump because I find the temps are not as consistant as when I use briquettes.

Then again, thinking about it a bit, I have made meals with just the campfire coals and have had no problems.

GnuBee. It's a 10" 4 quart Lodge DO. Just right for the two of us.

The sweet potatoes were not done for me either. Next time...start them earlier in hotter coals.

Campfire coals work for me. Makes it a little difficult to slow down the bottom heat. icon_neutral.gif
