Hey all! I have used this web site for quite some time.. Thanks everyone for all your info! I figgured I would post and say Hi. My addiction started one late night(about 5 years ago) with some buddies smoking a turkey. We used an ECB with no mods and it was about 15 degrees out! needles to say we cooked the darn thing but tell ya what! we learned allot. I have made many mods to the ole ECB Still my fave to bbq with. Today I started my first butt. started about 7hours ago. Im feel like im cheating due to using a friends electric ECB. First time with the Electric ECB.... to darn easy! I put a rub on it last night let er sit. Im using hickory for the smoke and have read allot about apple or oak but didnt have any at 4am. Does it matter? Hmmm? Temp is floating anywhere from 250 to 215.Thinking about wraping in foil in a few hrs allong with a bit of apple cider. Should be delish soon!

Any input about the hickory on a butt would be great.

Thanks again for all the info over the years! -Cheers

Welcome to SMF glad you decided to join us. I agree with Rick hickory is good I usually use hickory or cherry for butts

Hickory is a very good all around wood. I like it on beef, pork and really any big hunk of meat. But now welcome to the light side of SMF. Now that you have come out of the dark we will be looking forward to your Qview and your input with our future smoke. So you know the drill here so welcome and get to smoking.

Welcome , I agree with everyone's assessment of Hickory. I like it with a little mesquite mixed in for a bit stronger flavour on a butt.
