Just got her this afternoon. Spent about about 45 minutes putting it together and took it outside. Spayed the inside with a generous helping of PAM and fired it up to season the inside. Been playing with the burner control and the dampers to get a better sense of what combinations will create what sort of sustained temperature. Also helps to see how much of an impact a given change, fully opening a side damper for instance, will make on an empty smoker.

Over all I was pretty impressed with the build quality of the unit given its size and price. I can't wait to do my first full smoke with it this weekend.

A quick question:

I searched through the first twenty pages of this forum but never really found a consensus on a good place to get a decent cover for the BB GOSM. Anyone have any insight? Until I can order one, I'm using HD garbage bags which is far from ideal.

I'm going to lay out my full strategy for the first big cook in the appropriate food based forums tomorrow.

thanks for all the information on the board,

Stephen

Thanks Beer-B-Q. The cover store cover looks like it would work perfectly.

You may find one at Home Depot or Lowes for about 10 dollars I think someone said.

ive got the same unit guys and would love to convert it to natural gas

any sugestions and how to get parts would be most appreciated

I got the $10 one at Lowes, not worth the money or the effort. I will get the one from the cover store next.

Congrats on the new smoker

I would go to where I bought it and if they didn't have one just go to Homeless or Lowes or even Wally World should have a cover. congrats on the new smoker thou.

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to order the one from the cover store. I will probably place the smoker on top of a few pieces of slate or other tile to protect the deck from anything that may drip out. I'm not too worried about the heat though.

Stephen

Congrats on your new smoker. Can't wait to see some of the first Q's that come out of it.

Congrats, Stephen! You're gonna really like that rig. You will definitly want to protect your deck from some drippage. They do tend to leak a little, and you don't want a greasy stain on your deck. Don't forget to post some q-veiw of your maiden smoke.

Thanks Stephan. I checked our local Bass Pro today...no luck. I guess I'll have to make an order. I'm not too keen on that idea just in case it arrives damaged. But at this point I have little choice.

Yeah, you should be able to talk to your local bass pro and they will have one sent to the store -- probably more careful shipping than to your house -- and you will save the $45 bucks on freight.

Good Luck.
