Hey I need to get some help my lid i got from a bbq won't fit its off by a half inch maybe more. If i just sit the lid on top of the drum it sits on the drum, but not over the lip. When I try to fit it over the lip it off by a half inch or less.

Sorry I've been hitting the drum and the lid with a 3lb hammer but don't want to mess anything up really bad. Any help would be great.

Also sorry for my spelling and grammar.

What kind of lid are you using? When I used a uniflame lid from walmart, I had to bend the bottom of the lid with a pliers then hammer it flat. From there it would sit on top of the drum. Once I got it perfect'o.....I then rounded what little bit of the lid I could over the drum to help the seal.

What kind of drum are you using? If it's the type with a clamp on lid, try turning the drum upside down and try the grill lid on the bottom. If it fits, cut the bottom out with a sabre saw and gring the cut edge smooth with an angle grinder. The clamp on lid will then be the bottom of your smoker and can be removed to clean it out occasionally. That's the way I had to make mine and I'm glad it worked out that way.

Thanks so much guys. I'm going to do what you said to do travcoman45 probably sunday.

Right now I kinda got it like you said zjaybird. And its doing pretty good even with small leaks. I might chase temps a little bit but I can't do much more.

Seasoning it right now then going to try a fatty. Bacon jimmy dean and cheese on the inside. I'll try to put picks up. Then I'm doing 2 pulled pork 15lbs. Hope I can pull it off and all works.

Thanks again for all your help.
