Hello all. Wifey bought me a Brinkmann Gourmet for my birthday! I've dabbled in smoking on my gas BBQ with a cast iron smoker box, but this is a whole new world. So far I have only put a raised charcoal grate in the bottom and added a digital wireless remote thermometer. First smoke is under way using Royal Oak lump and sugar maple wood chunks.

Welcome to SMF....looks like you are making the right first steps into the wonder world of smoking.

My first smoker was a Brinkmann Gourmet charcoal smoker that my little sis gave me cuz she couldn't figure out Low and Slow. She's more into grilling.

You on the right path on the mods for that unit. For more ideas on mods, check out the Charcoal users section and read the mod sticky.

Enjoy the new addiction, btw- there is no cure!
