Sayin' Hey From Michigan

Thread Starter
Hiya Folks, I'm John from Flint, Michigan and although I own 4 smokers and have been using them for about 20 years, I just consider myself a "Tinkerer of Smoke". I've never taken it very seriously until lately when I stumbled across some Q forums and started seeing some of the great smokes that folks are doing. Pretty much over the years I've only done the occasional turkey or chicken, a couple racks of ribs now and then or some jerky when the mood strikes me., Now just recently I did a spatchcocked lemon pepper chicken, some 3-2-1 ribs, my first pork butts and a couple different fatties.
Lately I've just been using my Brinkman SnP with a SFB, because it's my largest, but I hate using it because of the extreme hot spot near the fb that cuts my cookin space in half. I'd just been considering doing some of the baffle and tuning plate mods on it, when I picked up a couple 55 gallon drums off Craigslist, so now I'm in the process of turning one of them into a UDS and the SnP mods are on a back burner.
I've also been offered a 275 gallon oil drum that I want to lay flat on it's side, cut gull wing doors on both sides and mount my other 55 gallon drum under it, lined with fire brick for a firebox.

I'm lookin' forward to talking more with you all, seein' yer smokes and sharing pics of mine and hopefully learning LOTS from you while doing it.

Welcome John, it looks like you are well on your way to becoming the Smoke Expert in your neighborhood. As a Nebraska fan, I am guessing that a good Michigan college Saturday needs a good Q. Good luck with your new 275 gallon toy and please send pictures.

Welcome! My wifes grew up in Flint and still has family there, actually Goodrich. Lots of good hardwood availability there in Mich, I would start by collecting all that great wood and getting it dry! No reason to buy it, that gets expensive.
