Noob in CA

Thread Starter
I've used cuips and chunks for years for grilling but I've never smoked. Well now is the time. I've searching for wood online and have been agressively looking for any wood available. Looking forward to learning whatever I can from you folks. I've got some good rub and marinade recipes I'd be more than happy to share. Any wood gathering, storing, or using tips would be appreciated.

Welcome to the SMF. I fortunately live in orchard country and just bum wood off the farmers during either spring or fall pruning season. They usually are happy to let you have some if you ask nicely.

Try to check out any local tree cutting service they run into all varieties of wood, useless to them , golden to you.
Check out your back yard, I have a maple, a pear, a peach, Cherry, Grapes, an Alder in my back yard. The neighbour has An Apricot and two Oak trees in His yard. Branches die and provide me with all the wood I need.
The city planted Mulberry trees all over town, I watch for when the crews are cutting them down or pruning them and they are happy to let me haul some of them away. I have even bummed a nice cherry log from a guy in the lineup at the dump.

Here is a link to my post for the new guys you may find it helpful.
