My 60 lb. shipment from Hatch was cancelled, so I had to scramble for another source.
Albertson's @ 855 N. Wilcox in Montebello, Ca., will be getting a shipment of (300) 30 lb. sacks that will go on sale September 19th 8-2 pm, roasting is free. Price will be $28.99 per 30 lb. sack. Not the cheapest, but the harvest is over... you can reach them at (323)n 724-0462 and ask for produce dept.

Good luck Chileheads.

Richo.... I will pay you Tuesday for a sack of chili's today

I am sooo jelous! Getting Hatch chili in Oregon is like hoping the Raiders will make the Super Bowl.... lol.

How could they roast them before shipping them or is that for local pickup only?

They ship them refridgerated and fresh, once you buy them, you can choose to have them roasted. When they roast before shipping, they freeze them and ship overnight to your door. But now you're talking major dinero... an average cost of $152.00 (including shipping)for a ten (10) pound box. Too steep for this chilehead. That's why I go fresh 30 lb. sacks.

The real reason the aliens came to New Mexico in '47 was simply that they were looking for the best Chile.  Since they found it, they refused to return to the Mothership.  They went back and burned the landing craft.  They used the fire to roast their chiles!

What else do you do with a good fire?!

Just made me a nice big pot of NM style green chili stew with pork last night - our local grocer got a couple of cases of Hatch Big Jim's in and I grabbed about 10 lbs.

Found myself.

I remember I had trouble signing up so had to use a different log-in.  This is the first time the Craniac log in worked. oops!

By the way, Popos is the local dive with WONDERFUL Green Chile.  You have to try the #8.

I will PM the Admin to delete the craniac profile for you

I'm necromancing this old thread:

If you guys are ever back in the land of entrapment during late August through early October, try some Lemitar chile. IMO, it's better than Hatch. They have all the different levels of heat from mild to extra hot, which last year some of it was as hot as the stuff ever gets. Their red is excellent too.
