Smokin Tex

Does anyone else have a Smokin Tex unit? I have done several smokes with it after 4 complete 4 hour seasoning sessions and the door still leaks a little. Any suggestions? Also any experience with recipies in the Smokin Tex would be much appreciated

Not me but if it's out there someone has one for sure.

I don't have a Smoking Tex but I have a Cookshack and the Smoking Tex is a clone of the Cookshacks. Mine leaks alittle at the top of the door but not much. IT's not enough for me to worry about it. I think it is mainly because I am running a thermo wire through the door opening so that is enough to make it leak alittle. Not sure if that is your case or not. Without the wire mine seals up pretty tight.

I run my thermo wires thru the top smoke vent so a little different - I have had some minor temp struggles - mostly too high so the door is not that much of a concern for temp - do you mop with your unit? It would seem to almost double the time in our type of units due to temp loss to mop

My thermo probes won't fit through the top vent, so I hang one through top vent for cabinet temp and run one through door for meat temp. As of yet I haven't made anything that I needed to mop in this unit yet. I just close and let it cook. Today I forgot to turn down the temp after warming it up and I put my fattie in and had it done in about an hour because I forgot it was set at 250 F the top setting. But it was all good, pulled it out at temp.

I like this unit so much that I just built a smoker out of a chest freezer and I copied my cookshack. I used the chip box from the cookshack in the freezer smoker. I like how little wood the cookshack needs for a smoke.

Hi I'm a newbie on this forum. I have a Smokin Tex, and I love it. I've smoked a truckload of stuff in it, Jerky, ribs, chickens, sausage, and all kinds of fish. I've had it for several years and it just keeps chugging along. Capnhook

I have had my ST 1400 for two years and had the same issue you have with smoke coming out of the door. According to ST this is normal and should stop as you smoke more and develop a seal.
