Hi all, neewb to smoking here. I just picked up a Chargriller smokin pro this week, planning to assemble it tonight and ran across this site looking at reviews then ran into the mods. I plan to put the drier vent on and new thermometers first thing. That seems like most critical. Anything else i should do off the bat before i firet his thing up and start playing?

Im a big waterfowl hunter and plan to try out smoking duck and goose this year. I have hi-hopes for the duck, but have yet to find a goose recipe that makes my mouth water when i think about it...even the best have been just above average IMO. So, tips are welcome!

welcome...and if there is a goose recipe that is good. you will find it here.

Welcome and enjoy the forum.

Steve Raichlin (? spelling) just did a thing on smoked duck on public TV. I think if you search for Barbecue U You can find his site for help with that. If you can't find it PM me, I have it on my other computer.

Welcome, Glad to have you with us. This is the place to learn, lots of good info and helpful friendly Members.

Be sure to check out Jeff's 5Day Smoking Basics eCourse, you can find it here it's "FREE"...5 Day e Course

Everyone here enjoys seeing the qview so be sure to post plenty of pics.

Hello there, and welcome to the SMF. Congrats on that new smoker. once assembled and you have added your mods, season that puppy. It's all good my friend.

I love finding a good friendly forum and one that gets replies during the day! While people are doing that ugly 4 letter word...its good to know im not alone screwing around when i should be doing other things!

As for OH vs IA...at least you get to watch us choke repeatedly!! haha

I wouldnt bother with those mods. I would however, turn the charcoal pan in the smoker upside down to make a baffle. I would also get a Maverick remote thermometer that tracks the smoker and meat temp. The baffle is the only mod I have made to my CGSP except for the firebox mod. If you look through my posts you can see pictures of the mods I made. I am too lazy to go back and find it myself (sorry).

Good luck and happy smoking.

First off welcome to SMF. Your gonna like it here cause there are alot of good folks here that would just love to help you with just about anything to do with smokin. Next I think you should look up the E-course it's free and very informative and it will show you the basics of smoking. Then check this out

It will show you how to post Qview (pictures) and we like that so we can see what your smoking with and what your smoking. So go get something to smoke.
Welcome to The Addiction

I tried to click on the 5 day ecourse link and my browser shows a broken link. Is this normal?

Also, do i need to season my chargriller? I dont have instructions on that!

One more question...i assembled it last night and when i push the ash drawer in, there is about a 1/4" gap around part of the opening where it doesnt fit tight. Is this a problem? Normal? Remedy?
