popped my CI cherry this weekend, after finding out sportsman warehouse has a good selection I went out and picked up a 14" skillet, I am going to watch them a little closer and try to catch a bigger DO on sale in the future, I came to SMF to learn a little more about smoking, now you got me buying cast iron!
I did a lb of bacon in the skillet on a charcoal grill just for fun, turned out great, gonna do some cheesey potatoes in it for next weekends cook.

Congrats on the purchase but just like smoking once you start you have to keep adding equipment

Now You will definately need to get a Dutch oven or two to attain your second class ticket in Cast Iron.

I have found that the best finish comes from a high heat method of seasoning. Heat up your oven to 400 degrees, put a LIGHT coating of vegtable oil on it, cook for 45 to 60 Minutes. Repeat this several time until the pan is pitch black. Give any future Dutch ovens you might buy the same treatment. You will love your cast iron!!!

Looks like we got us another "ironhead". If the 'thin blue' doesn't get you, the 'castironitis' will!

Careful that ya don't throw your back out when your 'collection' starts growing and ya gotta move 'em all!!
