Got a free brand new lodge 6 qt pot.
One problem , Pot was given to me in box and when i took it out to season it , i found that the person who had given it to me had TRIED to
season it. Was reall bad looking and i called him to see what he had done so i'd know how to undo it.
He wiped it w/ a heavy coat of veg. oil and put it in the oven at 350 for 5 hrs.
Bad thing is he didn't wash it first !

My question is now i've got a heavy coat of oil over the varnish from the factory, Whats the best way to clean the pot and start over w/ some lard

You can run it through your oven on the ovens clean cycle or cook it outside on the grill(>500 degrees) which will burn off all of the old oil. It will come out sooty. Wash it off good. I like to use the high heat method for seasoning mine. 400 Degrees, light coat of oil, repeat two or more times. It will come out shiny and black like you would wnat it.

Good luck,

What he said. That will do the trick. You can also toss it in a campfire and let it burn off, but you have to be very careful if you do it that way.
