Hi everyone,

My name is Eric, and I live in upstate NY. I am just learning about true smoking and BBQ, and absolutely love it. I have some of the basic tools of the trade, and my results have been pretty good so far. Looking forward to talking and learning from you all. Planning a trip with the family at some point to do a BBQ tour of Memphis, Kansas, and Texas trying to get some different BBQ tastes.

Looking forward to learning from everyone!!!!

Here are links to a few of our local joints, not sure how they standup against the big boys, but I sure enjoy them. I love these places when I dont have all day to spend doing BBQ - my quick fix is satisfied. Check out Oscars, they are legendary around here, a great place!!!

Welcome to the SMF!! the thing you'll find is once you get started in doing the smoking yourself very few if any bbq joints can do better than you.

Welcome to SMF! Been thru Saratoga Springs many times. Beautiful country! Now down here in Fort Worth, Tx., you don't have to dig the smoker out of a snowbank when you want to fire it up here, lol! Used to be a District Meat Supervisor for many stores for Great American Food Stores out of Norwich NY. Don't hesitate to ask about anything you need, someone here will know the answer! But, we all love Qview.. post a lot of pics!

Yes - I love Saratoga - great place, but as you mention - the snow can really mess things up!!!

I went to college in Potsdam, I believe Norwich was pretty close to that area.

Thanks everyone for such a nice welcome. I cant wait to take some knowledge from you all and really get going on this!!!! I signed up for the 5 day ecourse, and hope I can get out there Saturday and get something in the smoker! Nice to hear from some other New Yorkers!!! I start talking to people about BBQ, and if it doesnt involve a hamburger, hot dog, or possibly chicken, they don't really know what I am talking about. Most people around here would never consider spending an afternoon (5-6 hrs) to prepare some ribs. I guess we all need to learn to slow down a little bit.

Thanks again
Eric
