I am new to this. My name is Casey, I have smoked ribs a few times. Just got a char broil silver smoker. They turned out pretty good. My brother in-law is an excellent smoker and he thought they were great!

I want to smoke some rib eye steaks.

And I need a good way to tell when steaks are done and when ribs are done.

Welcome to SMF, Casey. Glad you joined us.

Take advantage of the free 5 day course, read the posts and feel free to ask questions. Get yourself a couple of good, digital thermometers. You'll be turning out great smoked food in no time.

Hi and welcome to the SMF. You'll find plenty of help here. I'd recommend both Jeff's 5 day smoking meat e-course and that you cruise on down to wally-world and get a nice handheld probe thermometer for around 5 dollars. Two excellent tools you can use.

Welcome to the forum Casey, glad you joined!
I love smoking steaks, gives them such a great flavor. I just recently smoked a bunch of filet mignons (I need to post it still) and they came out really good.
I'll post the thread shortly but basically I smoked them for about 45 minutes to an hour and finished in a cast iron skillet (though anything but filets I would prefer done on an open flame)and they were still nice and rare inside.
Hope things work out for you and I'm sure you will learn more than you could ever hope from this site and its great members.
