Man, its a shame all the info that was lost in the crash on all topics. There was a lot of good threads on home built electrics, refer conversions, proofing ovens, etc. Lots of different approaches to heating elements, controls, etc. Hopefully we can get some of that back for the newbies, as well as those of us that are always seeking to improve on what we have. They are all a work in progress. Lets just get to posting what we have and how we did it, so we can get this body of knowledge back up to speed. Mine is an old Kenmore 24 cu ft. freezer. All plastic stripped and replaced with sheet metal. Original magnetic seal left and works great. 4 in. vent and damper, Brinkmann 1500 watt heating element controlled with a Tstat from Allied Kenco. Seperate smoke generator which for now is an old Lil Chief box, hot plate and stainless steel dish. Using an enclosed computer fan to push smoke and add more air circulation in the big box. Still tweeking the generator though.
