Hey Guys,

I'm new to smoking meat but I'm no stranger to the grill. Smoking meat never really interested me much until one day my brother & I decided we would smoke a couple of tri-tip sirloins that you would normally find at Texas Land & Cattle. I actually visited this forum to find out what kind of cut it was & ideas on how to smoke it. What we pulled off that smoker was sweet sweet nectar that fell from heaven & onto my plate! We had a large party that day and by judging from the people's reaction to the smoked sirloin, you would have thought we sprinkled crack on it.

Now I have adopted the idea that everything is better smoked. Anyone found a way to smoke ice cream yet?

I have lived in the North Dallas area for about a year & 1/2. I moved here from Louisiana after attending LSU & La Tech. BBQ is a staple here & I look forward to collecting some smoking ideas from all of you veterans and sharing with my family & friends.

Currently the only equipment I have is a Brinkman R2D2 Smoker. I'm looking to upgrade really soon & I would LOVE to get your opinions on this Char-Broil Smoker: http://www.smokenator.com/images/BanderaSmoker.gif

The one I'm looking at is used/rusty and needs some TLC. I haven't looked at it in person yet but supposedly all the rails, racks, & the firebox are intact. Their asking price was only $50!

Thanks for having me & I look forward to reading your posts.

Welcome cbizzle, you have joined a great site, lots of great people and ideas. Even though you're good around the grill, take the free 5 day course, lots of really good tips and instruction, helped me a lot.

Welcome and enjoy!
Since you've been here before you know the quality of the people and the forum.
Tri tips are an excellent piece of meat and VERY reasonable.

Welcome! First, jump on that smoker for $50!!! The only way I think you could have smoked ice cream would be to smoke what you would put in it, maybe smoked peach ice cream...smoke the peaches! Perhaps smoke some vanilla beans, smoke some coffee beans for coffee ice cream. Imagination is your only limitation!

Shellbellc - Not bad, I never thought about smoking things and adding it to the ice cream later.

That sounds great! What time do things kick off? I have a bit of smoking that I'm thinking of doing myself in preparation for the LSU vs. Auburn game so timing is critical!

Welcome CB. My only advise for you and your brother is to stay out of a few places in BIG D. They are: Baby Dolls, Mens Club, Caberet Royal and others like it. Now I have never been there myself but somehow i know this. They don't serve Q.

Greetings Clay,
Welcome to the family...we love q-vue! and your gonna need some big q-uve since everything is bigger in TEXAS!
You will love it here!
Happy smokes!

Welcome, and dont be too hard on that r2d2 ecb, i think alot of us started there, and they do turn out some good q.....

Glad to have you with us at the SMF. Don't worry about the smoker, most of us update/swap/or just add on more smokers. It's all good.

Welcome to the forum! Just west of you in Fort Worth.

Try taking the carton of ice cream and carefully undoing it, leaving the ice cream in the freezer on a plate, then stand up the carton on the smoker and smoke it thoroughly, then put it back together and gently slide the block of ice cream back into it after it cools. Let it sit overnight and let the smoke permeate the ice cream.... next day, smoked ice cream! Maybe put it in a ziploc so the smoke concentrates into the package. Bet your freezer would smell real nice too! I'm sure some ice cubes in there would absorb some of the smoke... ohh yeah... smokey flavored Bailey's and Cream on the rocks!

POPS - I like where you are going with this!

Wayside Ranch - Your right, they don't sell q and they still overcharge for brisket! Have you ever been to Baby Back Shack or Sonny Brian's? Those are a couple of favorites of mine but I'm always looking for a new joint to check out!

Crusty old salt Roadrunr - I wouldn't get rid of the ECB... but I would like to paint it like r2d2 just for kicks.
