Ever since joining SMF I have made many "virtual" friends and today I finally got to meet two of them in person, Pineywoods (aka Jerry), and Seboke (aka Ken).

Jerry was the gracious host that had both Ken and his family, and myself, over to his house. We were both also the first to sample his inaugural smoke on the Lang (link to thread). While I was there Jerry threw 4 chickens into the GOSM and had the rest of the grub heated up from his smoke yesterday. We made our first batch of Dutch's beans (wow, wow, wow ...) and Ken brought the ingredients for the ABTs (which they may have smoked after I left). Lemmie say that the food was AWESOME!!!

Not only was the food awesome, it was great to have finally met my friends from SMF. The way we chatted it felt like we have known each other for years. We are also looking forward to the FL gathering (Oct 17,18,19) to repeat the fun we had today. With both Lang smokers from Jerry and Ken, it's going to nothing less than a fun time!

I know of the SMF Iowa gathering that happened earlier in the year. Has anyone else been able to meet their SMF "virtual" buddies in person?

Thanks again Jerry, and Ken!!!!

it is great when you can meat the freinds you have made here in person, i hope more states/areas start doing this sort of thing.

Nice to see a few of you got together Laurel. I know you're lookin forward to the Oct gathering. It was great getting to meet some of the great folks from our state. Looking forward to the next one. Like Buzz said, hope more states can get togther and do this too.

Hey all you other states, ifin yall can get a gatherin tagether, I assure you it is well worth it! We had an excellent time an sounds like florida is shapin up ta do the same!

We all have made excellent friends here in the neighborhood, but it is always great ta meet in person!

Laurel it was great finally meeting you in person. Ken it was great seeing you again and meeting your lovely bride. Laurel and I got some chickens that were brining all prepped and into the GOSM with some apple chips. Then we went to making Dutch's beans regular recipe and modified for the kiddies. This was both of our first attempts at the beans and we double teamed them in fine fashion and they came out great. Ken got here and started making up ABT's but dinner got ready to quick and we didn't get to them. My daughter and son in law had invited some friends over as well and they are still partying hard. I really enjoyed the day and look forward to doing it again the gathering should be awesome. You know you chat with people on here and when you finally meet them and they are as great as you thought its really a blast. Ken and I met a couple months ago and seemed to hit it off great and Laurel today was just as great. I look forward to spending more time with both. We didn't get many pics today except Laurel said we had to post the food so here it is

I woke up with a smile on my face this morning still thinking about the great day we all had yesterday! Thank you so much again, Jerry!!

As Buzz said in an earlier post, hope others get the opportunity to meet people from SMF in person. There are some mighty fine people on this site and when ya meet, it's more like a family reunion!

It's really nice to be able to put faces with the personalities. Any gathering or function I've been to has been great. I've met folks from MI, IN, and local areas ... even Papa Jeff.

My wife made a comment once about going to meet a bunch of "axe murderers". I have yet to meet anyone who has killed an axe. Really though, If anyone has the chance to get to any gathering - you should really do it. Wish I had more time to travel to some of them.

BTW .. Ken & Jerry sounds like SMF's answer to an ice cream place

I can 3rd this as meeting folks in person from this site has been just great. (OK and MI folks in my case) Look forward to more opportunities but I can't get out much these days.

That sounds great Laurel, Piney and Ken! Glad you had the chance to meet.

Your food looks darned good too.

sounds great..and glad you all were able to do it. life is to short not to have fun..especialy with fine folks you meet on forums..I have met great hunting and shooting friends on forums.

I'll echo the thoughts of Jerry and Laurel, it's great to get to meet and hang out for real with the virtual friends we have made in here.

Since neither Jerry or Laurel threw me under the bus, I'll fess up. We got out of the house late. The wife doesn't like to "rough it". She thought we were heading to Jerry's camp so she wasn't really motivated to get all packed up and on the road. She didn't actually realize we were going to Jerry's house till we were finally on the road.

Well, driving her soccer mom van ain't something I do a lot. After getting the seat and steering wheel set to where I like 'em, fuel gauge is hidden by the steering wheel. So were about a third of the way into the 80 mile drive to Jerry's. Pull in to get gas, reach for my wallet - not there. Tell momma to give me her card, she says thru wide eyes that she didn't bring her purse. After several minutes of bitter cursing, we head back toward home. Got 28 miles of interstate to go with no A/C, cruise control set to 50.

We made it, got gassed up, and re-headed for Jerry's, arrived a good three hours late. THAT'S why no ABT's. Felt bad... Jerry nor laurel had ever made them and I had some pretty tasty crab and shrimp filling ready to go. I left Jerry with a pile of ingredients and showed him how I do it with the bacon wrap.

Fun day all around, great time with great people! If this was a preview of the N. FL Gathering, I am definitely there! Well, I was already definitely there, I mean MORE definitely!

Ah!! I sure wish I was't a whole country away from you all! Laurel I am so glad you all had a great time, I know Jerry was looking forward to meeting you, as am I! Daytona girlie! I am off the the big one! Look for me on Nascar today Laurel!

I'll echo everyone else's sentiments...if you get the chance to go to a gathering....or have the initiative to get one going......DO IT!!!

We had a fantastic time at the Iowa gathering.....planning to do 2 next year!

After you chat with the folks on here for a while, it's kinda like going to a family reunion of sorts....you can be yourself and just have a good 'ol time!

So, make your plans......set a date.....and GO FOR IT! You won't be disappointed.

L8r,
Eric
