I plan on doing a batch of beans with a butt next weekend in my ECB. The ? I have is. Would you guys put the beans on the last 2 hours under the butt or leave the beans under the whole smoke?

I would save the butt juices

and then add them to the beans when done........but I am a control freak like that.

If I find the right amount of juices to have the beans right where I want them (2 TBS for example), then I want to be able to duplicate that.

I would start them a bit after my initial cook begins.

Like FBJ, I don't want TOO much added grease in there, just some good flavoring.

Example: 7# Picnic
I'd start the beans with about 5 hours to go, as around the last 2+ hours, I know the picnic will be wrapped in foil so only a controlled amount of juice will make it in there.

Regardless, stir every 30 minutes or so to continue to expose surface area to the sweet blue

Good luck!
