Looking for smoker on trailer

Thread Starter
I'm looking for a smoker that's already on a trailer that can be pulled behind a truck. I don't know a lot about them, so please bear with me if I say something that doesn't make sense. I don't need a really big one. A smaller unit would do fine. If it cooked enough for 50 that would easily be plenty. I'd like one that could be lit with a propane tank so the temp could be easily managed. I live in Louisiana so I'd need to work out getting it here. I can't find any local places that sell these. I really need a unit that's hard to mess up a cookout! If I need to list anything else please let me know. As for price, maybe something around $2500 if that's possible. Thanks for any help or advice.

Thanks for the info. Looks like a really good site.

Can you or anybody tell me how the propane can lite the wood and keep the fire going? I've never had a unit like this and would apreciate that info.

I tried craigslist.org in several areas closeby. There wasn't anything like this listed now.

Trust me, with a Lang, you won't need propane to "keep" the fire going. In fact. you will be amazed at how well it cooks and how easy it is to operate:-)

I did put a log lighter on mine to speed up the start-up process and avoid using newspaper and kindling, A brush burner will do the same thing though:-)

I think you need to do some research though so you can see all types and styles---here some links for you:-)

Here is a nice list of 40+ BBQ Pit Builders

Folks that do lots of catering like the gas/propane feature. Most backyard cooks don't bother with the propane upgrade. I use all sorts of methods to light my smoker: chimney, propane weed burner, propane golf club, those charcoal starter cube thingys, etc.

Keep looking on craiglist, I found great deals on both my smokers there, just gotta keep looking! My best search results was from "BBQ smoker". My lang was posted almost three weeks before I saw it, couldn't believe no-one had scooped it up by then!

Anybody here used or have comments on a Diamond Plate smoker? I could possibly get a good deal on one and wanted to know any thoughts on them.

I'm not sure what part of Louisiana you are from, but in Baton Rouge there is a place called "Goodwood Hardware" and they sell Horizon smokers that are on trailers. I do not know anything about the smokers, but they look nice. Good Luck
