Ok so now that I've rescued this gem from the rough, it's time for a little polish. I've got my friend ready to weld the shelving brackets in and put the handles on but before he does that I really want the inside to be ready for seasoning.

First question I have is what is the easiest way to remove rust. There's enough on the inside that it needs to be cleaned up. Mostly light rust but a little flaking in the firebox.

Second, in a smoker this big, would it be a good idea to put some kind of a clean out valve in the bottom? What size of a valve am I looking at?

Third, any suggestions on how to redirect that stack to pull from the bottom? It's too tight for the dryer vent...

And lastly, would it be overkill to paint the inside of the smoker and the grates to prevent further rust?

Thats a gem of a smoker, Sandblast or wire wheel it out, move it out into the sun and get yerself a can of crisco or lard, grab some gloves and a girlfriend and have some fun!

When the fun is over, fire it up and let it burn for a couple hours. Learn how to control the fire and watch temps ect. That will take care of that. Never ever put paint inside. You can actually season the outside the same way if ya want to. It doesn't hold up as good as paint, but some guys use the ole"stove black" on their rigs and just re touch it every few months.

Any suggestions on stack placement? I'm thinking it's too high so I was going to have it moved down so it's even with the bottom shelf...I could be completely wrong here too?
