Well, yesterday I smoked 2 whole chickens in my newly modified ECB. By the way, it was my first ever smoke and the results were very good. Even though as soon as I threw the chickens on and got the temp. stable I was hit with what felt like hurricane force winds (ok slight exageration!) and then the skies opened up and it just poured buckets on me and my ECB (another slight exageration!) for about 30 minutes or so. Then it just ended up as a slow steady drizzle. It took a good bit of work but I managed to keep the temp. up and relatively stable and about 4 hours later my wife and I had 2 really tasty chickens. I must say I'm quite proud of my efforts, especially since at one point during the storm I was ready to abandon the chickens and try again next weekend. Sure glad I didn't though. I imagine without the mods. to my ECB it would have been impossible to pull off. I'm thinking about doing chickens again soon but I will monitor the weather and try to pick a better day, even though the storm came as a complete surprise. Funny how the weatherman never mentioned anything about rain. What a great gig weatherman is! After my next chicken smoke I think I will move on to pulled pork.
