I have noticed on your signature section a GOSM big block with a thermal mass device consisting of four bricks. I am not sure I know what that means. Do you think that you could school me and any-one else who is curious about this and the reasons behind it. Thanks

In the absence of Tip... the bricks help maintain constant heat. Less spiking/reheating dips...eg: when ya add fresh coals, or open the door for meat maintainance.

I myself have a Big Boy GOSM. Do you place the bricks on one of the racks or down on the bottom closer to the heat source?

*I* don't place bricks anywhere heh! Don't run a GOSM. But I'd imagine you'd keep them down by the heat source.

Not sure what bricks under the burner are gonna due....waiting to hear how this works! wink.gif

I assume you're talking about fire bricks?

I don't have any in my GOSM at this time but from what I understand you place firebricks in the bottom of the smoker. This will absorb heat while smoking and when you open the door to spritz or whatever it displaces some of the heat absorbed back into the smoker thus helping recover temps faster. It would be the same principle when it comes to a temp spike as it would have to heat the bricks too.

Hey yall, there simple cheap concrete bricks from the home store. Bout 44 cents a piece ifin I remember right. I just put two on each side a the burner on the bottom a the smoke box.

They hep the temp come back up faster after yall have the door open, evens out the temps a bit. Nothin technical bout it really, works like them brick pizza ovens, get a larger mass hot an it will radiate heat back out when it drops below the heated temp.

Fer less then 4 bucks they are well worth the cost. I have nice steady temps in my smoker an don't take long ta get right back ta temp after a spritz er reload a wood. These bricks work fine cause we are at such low temps, not like in a boiler er high heat cooker, were lookin at less then 350 degree's so bout any brick yall put in there should be fine. Like I said, mine er just cheap concrete paver bricks from the homestore.

If yall need more info, just ask. Good luck.
