Hey guys,

Found this site today while researching charcoal smokers. I have been using a Masterbuilt electric for about a year now and love it. Have been thinking about a charcoal for a while and now finally have the room to store one.

I have been eyeing the chargriller smoker pro, is there a better option out there, any input would be great.

Well I have seen there is a few others from ND on here I am from Jamestown and currently living in Edgley.

Thanks for all that I have found on here today and that I will find in the future.

Welcome target ! You could browse this site till you drop and still have missed a bunch ! You will be suprised at the quick responses and friendly family type atmosphere here. there are so many smokers on the market I wont begin to rank em. I have a bar-b- chef from bbq galore that I am very happy with. Good smokes !

Glad you found us Target, and Welcome! If you have been doing your research, you have probably already found out that charcoal smokers take more time and effort than your electric one does, but, IMHO, the Q that comes from a charcoal smoker will have a better, more distinct flavor.

In your research, don't overlook the humble ecb as an option for your first charcoal's a relatively inexpensive way to get into smoking with charcoal, and there are plenty of mods that can make it very easy to use.

Whatever you decide, we're glad to have you here at the SMF, and don't be afraid to ask any questions you may have. We're here to help...wink.gif

I am familiar with an ECB I used a sportsman for a few years before I got the masterbuilt. I smoked a little on that decided that I wanted the electric to be quicker at it. i would still use the masterbuilt just like using the charcoal grills better.

Welcome to the smf neighbor................Mandan here...............Glad to have another North Dakotan here.............

I agree with Eric that an ECB would be an ideal starter charcoal smoker. There really is something different about using lump all the way through the cooking process that adds so much to the flavor.

Good luck
