Well, I am ready to jump into the BBQ/smoking fun...

I an new to the Qing, I have cooked for years on the good ole Gas grill but now after r4eading/listening/watchign allthe good stuff on Charcol grilling i am looking at buying "Brinkmann 40" Smoke 'n Pit Charcoal Smoker" from the local Wally-world. it looks like a nice price to introduce myself to the hobby. (is ths the same you refer to as "ECB" in the forums?)

I have a local friend that has opened a BBQ resurant here intown and he use to be on the circuit and won several compatitions in the past, so he is willing to give me some pointers also.

In my spare time i am a BoyScout Scoutmaster and thought this wouldbe good to take on campouts also (besides Dutch oven cooking)

Thanks agian

Welcome to the forum! I think the ECB is the really cheapo dome top Brinkman. I retired mine when I bought the SMV.

Welcome to SMF, Jim! Glad to have ya here. If you're new to smoking I suggest signing up for Jeff's free 5-day eCourse. It's a great course that will give you the stuff needed to get started smoking, quick!

Hey Jim,

The ECB is a bullet style smoker, it does not look like a normal grill. I recommend getting an ECB. I still have mine and it is what I started smoking with. Like you, I had grilled for a long time but only with gas. I was amazed at how much flavor was added by the smoking process. Jeff's 5 day email course is great for basic smoking info. Look forward to hearing about what kind of smoker you decide on.

Welcome to SMF you'll find lots of great info and recipes here. Have fun and happy smoking
