Problems with brand new smoker?

Hey, just got this smoker brand new, and was thinking about curing it the other day, have had it since tuesday, and checked it out and was going to put it together yesterday. I have some concerns but i dont know if i should or not. This thing is all rusty on the inside! here are some pictures...

probably take it back, or else get ready to wire brush it clean then season it.

Hey, so this is not how a smoker usually some then? It was shipped to me all assembled, if this does not look new and unused, i can get a new one for sure from where i bought it. I am just trying to make sure this is not normal before i make a fuss. Many have told me it is not, but i figured you guys here would know best. thanks for the input

I don't think it is used, as in smoked in before, but I do think it was a floor model, possibly outside or somewhere where humidity is high. Either way, unless it was REALLY inexpensive, I would want a new one with no rust!

Hey, this is a brinkmann cimarron and its a 1200 dollar model, but they sell it for like 825 with free shipping i think, or still shipping. Alright, a few more responses and i will start in getting a new one, i was really mad when i started exploring this thing and found all the rust. I was like whats the point to season and help prevent rust if its already rusty.

take it back then and get a good one ,for that price i wouldn't hesitate.

Take it back. New should look new. If not and the rust isnt deep you can wire brush it. Clean out any debri and then spray down all inside with PAM and cure it.

I am assuming that's just the firebox you have rust on? I guess I'd send those pix to Brinkmann and ask for some compensation, free accesories etc.

But I'd be tempted to just get some 60 grit and knock off the scale, grease it up and season it. Paint's gonna cook off anyway.

Rich , his post says pics are of , fire box , cooking chamber , and then the lid .
If it really bothered me and I was sure I'd get a better one as a replacement , I may try that route .
But knowing me icon_rolleyes.gif , I'd have just broke out the sand paper and scuffed it all down and dedust. Oil everything a little and gently season , then cool and reseason again just for good measure wink.gif figgering that I saved about $ 400 for an hour or two of getting to show my smoker a little TLC icon_smile.gif

But I get the impression that most folks here would not want to eat off of it icon_sad.gif

There's no reason to feel that way. Once seasoned correctly, as described- it will be fine.

Thanks , that was my first impresion , to just clean it and use it. Most said return it so I had to at least mention that some of us would be smoking on it allready PDT_Armataz_01_26.gif

I would try and get a little compensation first. You paid for a new grill in new condition, not OK condition. Then I would sand it down and oil it. RichTee is right about the paint. After one REALLY big fire in my SNP, the paint was gone in a lot of the fire box. A SNP is a light weight version of your cimmaron. I had to put veg oil in my firebox last night before smoking.

Also with my very brief experience with the SNP you do not need a large fire to bring it up to temp. I thought bigger grill surface, more heat is needed to get up to temp. A chimney of charcoal is good to start with.
