Just got a new Perfect flame Gas smoker for fathers day and anxious to try it out. New to smoking, except for good cigars with bourbon and branch and want to try a good boston butt on it.

Any good tips from you pros out there on cooking times, temps, and rack levels, etc?

Welcome Gadawg, I'm origonaly from Savannah, now in south Fl. Forget time when doing Butts. cook to temp. Go to the pork forum you will find plenty of info on butts. Try SFQ er finishing sauce real good place to start.

I am newb around here too. I also got a smoker for Father's day. If you have a Sam's Club nearby, that is a good place to get a quanity of butts. I have a family of seven. Some of them usually have friends around. It was good for me I finally got a large smoker.

Go Hawgs!

Gadawg,
A hearty welcome to the SMF! Glad you're here. As a suggestion, why not start by taking Jeff's five day smoking ecourse. It's full of great info to get you off on the right foot. Also, don't forget the "search" feature to look for specific info that relates just to you. Then don't forget to ask questions. Lots of folks here with lots of experience.

Hey there... Welcome to the site. You know your family loves you when you get a smoker for Father's day. Try Jeff's 5 day e-course. It's free and packed with good information.

Go Hogs!!

Welcome Gadawg...you found the right place for Q!!

Cooking time...cook it till it's done...you'll learn patience!
Cooking temp...roughly 225...butts are forgiving if you have spikes!
Grate level...yup you'd want that or your butt would fall off!!! LOL!!!

There is a lot to learn from these folks!!

But just have to say....GO DAWGS!! SIC'EM!!! WOOF!!! WOOF!!!

And that is from a Dawg fan that just moved to Gator Country from the sickening orange glow of Knoxville, TN....and by the way...just happen to be married to a GA Tech fan.

I love a challenge.
