My brother has been over a few times as I was taking canadian bacon or brisket out of my smokers and always liked the flavor so he was thinking of making a smoker for himself.

So he calls me a month ago to see if I want an old fridge he has in his garage, it's real old all steel inside he say's, I told him "you could make a smoke out of that, I'll send you some links from the SMF"

He is not on the net much but here is the finished smoker with a digital controled electric element, both of us install fire sprinklers so the stack is sprinkler pipe.

Me and the wife ate spareribs for the first cook after he seasoned it, they were exccelent and he has smoked some food for friends and they are amazed the quality of food from an old fridge.

i made a smoker out of the same exact fridge and the plastic around the door started to melt and wrinkle so i replaced it with some 1 1/2 inch flashing i only smoke in temps below 180 in it i use it for sausage and salmon

His plastic started melting the first time he used it also, so he bought some this steel and cut pieces for that and behind where the freezer was.

Yes; excellent job. I used some stainless steel rods across the top rack supports on mine to hang loops of Polish Vension sausages. With the remote thermometer, I could stay warm in the house and arrive to pull them on time. You are going to be so happy. Semper Fi from Sedalia, MO.

I have noticed a couple of times at Lowes on the side of the store they had defective fridges waiting to be picked up for junk. Maybe you could get one of those.

Another idea, years ago I picked one up at a used restaurant equipment place that didn't work. The compressor was shot and got a good deal on it, nice thing was it was stainless with all the racks. We then added electric controls and had a first class smoker and slow cooker.
Good luck!

great looking fridge/smoker!!! im curious about the thermostat..... what is the brand and where did you find it??? id sure appreciate it if you could let me know. good job

That thing looks great! I am making one out of the same fridge. What size is your stack pipe?
