The Beloved Restaurant Meat

Anybody else becoming more and more disapointed with that expensive steak, prime rib or big cut of meat that you so used to look forward to and savor......before you could shame these now boring, bland and unflavorful DISGRACES!

I swear this is frustrating me more and more and the only explanation my wife and I can come up with sitting at a steak house, plates empty, waiting for the check, is, "ours have so much more flavor"!!

My marketing department got taken out for dinner tonight at a very nice steak house and I had a 16oz ribeye that was a GREAT piece of meat cooked to perfection over a charcoal fire.....and it was positively the most non-flavorful steak I've ever had....at $26! All I could think about while trying to be polite with everyone else savoring their favorite steaks and chops was...I wish they'd let me back there!!

AND THIS SMOKING THING IS NOT HELPING. NOW....I'M IN A WHOLE NEW DIMENSION OF FLAVOR THAT'S EVEN MORE EXTREME!!! And it's all I think about when eating out!!! And this stupid website is making it worse! And the stupid Qview pics are making it worse and all y'alls comments and suggestions are REALLY just making the whole dang catastrophe WORSE. Your all bad for me and I DON'T think my mom wants me hanging out with you anymore...

T-roy, you have some real problems there. Smoking meat for a living would be cool if it weren't for the hours you have to keep. Keep up the good smokes at home and invite friends over to share your awesome smoke. Build a fire pit and a Tiki bar in the backyard and let the good times roll.

I feel your pain. Since I have become disabled my wife and I ate out all the time when I had Dr's appointment. Now I can't stand to it out I just want to get home to good tasty food. Seems we are finding excuses to keep from going out with our friends to eat .lol Now I told the neighbors ya buy the meat you can toss it in anytime I fire up. Surprising my one neighbor will call a few days early to check out my schedule. At least he supplys some propane and extra meat for me lol.

Only time I really like to eat out is when I get the hankerin for something deep fried like chix gizzards, livers, pickles and the like. I can do em at home but it is a lot of messy work and the wife doesn't share my enthusiasm for it.

Living on Long Island (Just outside the city) we have some fantastic restaurants. I will go out for many types of foods, even though I can and have cooked many of them, though I find that Steakhouses are WAY over rated, even the good ones. Ruth's Chris has some great steaks, but just don't get into marinades, etc.

Tastiest steak's I've had have been cheap cuts of meat that we've marinated and grilled.

PS BBQ on Long Island is almost non-existent and usually not good when it is there.

T-ROY..........how about a bit of a warning..........i just spit my adult beverage all over the monitor.............great post...........

I also agree on the steak houses........they suck for the kind of money they are charging...........IF I would go out, it would be for fresh seafood, like at Splash, as its flown in fresh daily. Living here in the mid-west, its about as close as to fresh as you are going to get........BUT, expensive as all get out.

SO, like curlygurl said, home cooking is the best. AND i control the ingrediants.

Yeah, my wife and freinds curse the day i found this site, cause i want to smoke EVERYTHING........heheheh.......tho the twinkie experience will have to wait for cold smoking........hehehehe

yeah I have to agree too... I recently bought a half a cow from a rancher-friend of a friend, and it's worlds better than anything I've ever bought at the store and still so, so much better than anything I've had from a restaurant. That stuff, like you said, has no flavor. No wonder they have to slather it in all kinds of fancy sauces to make it taste good. The beef I have now has so much flavor it's incredible!

The most expensive steak I've ever had was an $85 fillet mignon and even that had to be covered in a mushroom burgundy sauce to have flavor. Now I have that same cut for about $3, and the taste is no comparison!

yeah.........and the REAL problem is.....the resturants are the only ones getting PRIME cuts, which us po' folk have a hard time getting.........if thats prime, i will pass, and take choice

ahmen brotha! i can't remember the last time i got a good steak at a restraunt. it's either not seasoned at all, or overly seasoned. they can never seem to get it done properly. you order it med. rare and either get rare, or well done. that's why i gave up on steaks if we go out. at least the beer helps in the soothing process

the only time we really go out is to get pasta, or seafood (which i'm getting away from since i got a "guy" now that hooks me up).
