Howdy All!

I found this wonderful sight yesterday while researching a new smoker. I wanted to give smoking a try again and since the kids have us pretty active on the weekend, I wanted something that would require less tending... for now :) I ended up ordering a Masterbuilt Electric Smokehouse for what I thought was an exceptional price. It looks like the reviews are fairly favorable for this unit.

Now all I have to do is wait for it to arrive.. which is not an easy thing to do while drooling over all these great looking Q's being posted. Since pulled pork & slaw is my absolute favorite, I thought I'd break 'er in with that. I've been reading on the site a bit, and brushing/spraying with Apple Juice sounds like it will taste great!

Is that fairly forgiving? Or should I aim lower for my first try. I've smoked a few times in the past with an old Brinkman I had, but I'm far from being experienced!

Welcome to SMF, Chris! While you're waiting on your smoker to arrive, I'd suggest signing up for Jeff's free 5-day eCourse that will have you armed and ready to use that thing right outta the box (after seasoning it, of course).

You're hopes aren't too high. Butt's are very forgiving with temps so you're sure to have a great start!

Pork Butt is a good starting point. They are very forgiving. Take the e-course and read some of the "butt" threads and I'm sure you'll do just fine! Good luck!

I have to agree with everyone else pork butt is the best to start with, you will see lots of different methods, foil don't foil...chop... pull....juat don't for get the mop sauce....YUMMY!!!

Hey jantha, do the butt! Very forgiving, and they don't have to be "perfect" to be great! Definitely check out the posts on butts. Many different methods, tried and true - find one you like or do your own combination
 
Welcome to the best smokin' site on Mother Earth, SMF that is. You'll be ok doing the butt as a first smoke, just do a little reading up to get your basic plan of action. Good luck on that smoke!
