The problem is I found this site, I think I have an addiction to meat smoking
icon_smile.gif
.

My old Brinkman bit the dust, I found this site and bought the Great Outdoors propane smoker at walmart for $99.00 after reading the suggestions from some of the existing threads.

I seasoned it yesterday (the smoker) and I'm smoking some Snow Goose jerky right now. Everything seems to be going great. I read some of the propane smokers have problems with lower temps. I can adjust mine (loaded with the goose) to 150 ish on low.

I'll let you know how the Snow Goose jerky tuns out. I got some deer lined up right behind it once the goose is done.

Thanks

Look at the good side Craig; at least you got to shoot some Snow Geese. Welcome to the forum from Sedalia, MO.

Hey cgeb - you're amongst friends that have the same addiction to smoking meats, so you're definitely in good company!

Glad you joined us at SMF. Lots of great information to be had, and shared. Look forward to reading your future posts, and drooling over your qvue!

Welcome, we all have that problem.

Welcome to SMF Craig we all suffer from the disease. Its great isn't it.
Hmm Snow Goose huh might be a little cooler outside were your smoking a nice cool 96* here today

Smoking adiction is a very serious disease and must be treated frequently.
There is even a step program here , like , jerky of several kinds , briskets , ribs , chicken , fish , fattys , apetisers , abts , beef roasts , pork roasts , more jerky , pig candy , smoked vegies , ....... well that is just a few of the steps

One of the most important steps in the treatment of your disease though , is taking pics of all of your smokes and sharing them here . That step is really important for the rest of us addicts that may not be able to be doing one of the other steps on that given day

Welcome , enjoy , and have fun

Welcome to the SMF, and congrats on the new smoker.

Congrats on the new smoker, and the big bad addiction.
Can't get any better either. Soon you'll be looking for a big rig or wood burner, and stickin hogs, and snow turkeys in it!

Hi Craig.
My name is Dave, I too am a smokaholic. Thanks to the grace of god and the encouragement of my friends is been 2 hrs since I've eaten my last smoked baby back rib.

Welcome. This site is a goldmine of useful information!

Dave

hate to break it to ya craig, u prob will not kick this one. unlike other vices all u can do is keep smkin and try and keep the symptoms at bay!!!
but look on the bright side, u get to hang out here, look at qview, maybe create some qview of your own to share. basically learn to live with your addiction!!!

As a whole "Hi Craig"
No you will not find your 12 step program in here...you will go the other way..forget the family, the friends...its just about smoking' and smf..who does have the best q-vue??
Your friends and family will soon think you are a lunatic, you want to take pix of your bbq's???? (from beginning to end) ARE YOU MAD??!!

Snow Goose came out OK, not bad fo the first batch thru the smoker.

I had two chip boxes in it, the one in back was a bread pan. I think it flamed up a little. My jerky in the back of the box dried up a little to much, stuuf in the front was a lot better.

Running the deer jerky thru with just one pan to see if it make a difference.

PS. just curious what do you tell the doctor when he asks you if you "smoke"? I mean do you just give him a big "hell yes" or what?

Just one of those smart a$$ days for me ( it's both the heat AND the humidity
eek.gif
)

But my response would be along the lines of " well , what would you like to smoke ? " From there a long description of my enjoyment of smokin' fattys , butts , and turds.
If the good DR ain't caught on yet

I'd just do my best to recall some of the more creative thread tittles I've seen here and hope he's taking notes on ,"can in the butt chicken , awesome butt rubs , great smokin' breasts" and finish by saying, that" my hard wood rocks and works best for the long and slow process that makes everyone I know's mouth water"

Your milage may vary , but I am not a fan of DRs ( oh , except the few that saved my life and the reason I'm still here to post
cool.gif
) but really enjoy messing with them on the rare ocasion I have to visit them

Some days are better than others but the addiction doesn't go away. Just be careful looking at the qview, sometimes you can almost smell it...that just makes the symptoms more compelling.
Welcome and good luck!

Welcome to the forum! Looking forward to your qview from the new smoker. Oh ya...there is no cure for the smoking meat blues....just keep on smoke'n.

cgeb, there are a LOT of things that are far worse to be addicted to than smoking meat!! My wife thinks I have almost officially lost my mind for always wanting to smoke something, for spending way too much time in the meat dept (even when not shopping for meat), for wanting to take pictures of every step of the smoking adventure.... Hell, I can't remember the last time I went to a bar with the guys. I'm happier with a tasty beverage beside my keyboard spending time in this forum!
