I think it depends on what you are gonna do with them. Personally, I view them as a specialty unit for doing sausage, jerky and other cured meat products. If you are planning to do ribs, brisket and other BBQ cooking, then I think there are better and cheaper units available. IMHO, the MES (MASTERBUILT) is a more versatile, better designed electric unit. FWIW, I love my homebuilt elec. for my sausage making, etc., and while it will produce "BBQ", it just isn't the same as charcoal and wood cookers for that purpose.
