I bought a Char-Griller Pro with SFB and have been using it to grill.

I want to try smoking with charcoal and maybe wood chips or chunks.

However, their website says the SFB requires wood logs and that you can't use charcoal (unless only as a starter)?

Its paragraph 12-- says you "MUST USE WOOD LOGS" ...

LINK

This surprises me considering how many people seem to use charcoal there for smoking?

Can anyone fill me in on why it says that?
I don't even know where to buy wood logs of smoking wood.
Has anyone used charcoal in the SFB to smoke effectively?

Thanks.

Welcome, to the smf.. youll have to stop at roll call and give an into.
as for your question... not sure why it says that lots here use lump in the sfb. maybe someone else will have some more for ya.

BS. Might wanna get/build a charcoal basket... but that's BS. Must be a heat concern? With the thin assed metal they use to make a so-called "firebox"? Get a basket, and use the lump charcoal for heat, wood for flavor. It ain't no Lang for crap's sake.

And hit the Roll Call forum and intro yerself..it's the polite thing to do Thanks and Welcome! :{)

I have the Char-broil Silver Smoker which is basically the same type of grill and I use charcoal every time with no issues.

hehehe, thanks for makin me laugh, had a crappy day, sounds like you did/or are too!
