I smoked some chicken 1/4 ers and country style ribs the chicken was on the top rack is it safe to have all the drippings falling on the pork or any other meat as it smokes or should the poultry always be on bottom Im guessing to be on the safe side just put poultry on bottom rack anyways to be safe any thoughts is greatly appreciated.PDT_Armataz_01_36.gif

Keep them on the bottom. Any mistakes and you'll have problems with your bottom icon_smile.gif

I would keep the poultry on the bottom if mixing batches. That way minimizes the possiblility of contamination.

Yes chicken always on the bottom-you don't want poultry juice dripping on your pork-beef- lamb-fish etc.

reason I asked is I got home early and my wife sat out some breasts and wanted them smoked problem being I didnt want to fire it up for just three breasts so I picked up ten lbs of leg quarters and a five lb batch of country style ribs now it is worth the time and effort !!!!! she doesnt realize the effort it takes kinda like the time she wanted our basement finished after workin alll day framing she would ask what have you been doing it wasnt til it was sheet rocked she realized anything was done LOL

Better safe than sorry! A few years ago I rubbed up some chicken to roast. Licked the seasoning off my fingers. Spent the rest of the night sitting on the throne with the trash can between my knees. I tried to hire someone to kill me but didn't have enough money. If you can prevent that, DO IT!!! Chicken on bottom!!

I never would have thought that to be a problem. Of course.. hearing it said.. it's only obvious huh? I learn something new on here every day.!

Of course.. I won't be having that problem for some time as I have a horizontal smoker.. but ya just never know what new smoking toy I may get in the future.!

I was just wondering is poultry dripping on poultry safe biggrin.gif? Smaller cuts on top (done sooner?), bigger on the bottom.

Wouldn't most meats with similar cook times and temps, like pork, be hot enough on the outside surfaces to cook the dripping juice anyways? Food for thought PDT_Armataz_01_29.gif.

I'm not sure I'd want pork all over my chicken either...PDT_Armataz_01_28.gif.

It does make sense to minimize risk in a vertical smoker.

The only reason i would'nt put chicken above any thing else, is i don't want to induce a "fowl" taste to anything.
Would'nt think it would be a problem though, as long as every thing is brought to a safe temp.
