Hi everyone. Im an old timer to the BBQ however new to the Smoking part of it. I have to ask, what is the difference between a smoker with a smoker box and an Upright smoker? thanks for your help. db

Where the fire box is. Heh. Welcome to SMF Dollar.
Some maintain that a "smoker" has a SEPERATE chamber for the coals, as in a SFB <Side Fire Box> but you CAN smoke in a single unit setup. It requires a divider between the fire and the food... water pan, etc. Keep reading on here. You'll know more than you need to soon :{)

Hey, thanks everyone! db

Like Richtee said....it's just a difference of where the heat source is placed.
There are pros and cons to each type of smoker also. Best bet is to do your homework....ask questions....and base your decisions on how YOU plan to do your smokin'.....that is if you are looking for a smoker.....PDT_Armataz_01_29.gif

Anywho......Welcome to the SMF and Enjoy!!

Welcome DB! Hold on to that wallet for just a sec... you might as well do a little research first and put the $$$ towards something that you really want, and is perhaps built to last a bit longer. Assuming that you are not in the market for a high end model (thousands of $$$), there is a very noticable difference between a $70 smoker and one that might run $100 or $200 more. Yeah, I know that is double or triple, but if you are serious about your cooking you will appreciate the quality and capacity of a modestly priced unit.

At first I found myself smoking a pork shoulder or two, but now I find myself planning how to stuff that sucker every time I light a fire. Shoulders, fattys, ABTs... they are all here, and you will enjoy them all too. Put your bucks towards something that will allow you to make it worth your while whne you make time to smoke your favorite goodies.

Glad you are here, enjoy the site!
