So, I go to HD and order my GOSM Big Block. I wait almost a MONTH, and get a call yesterday saying that they cannot get it in, that I have to order it online. (Yes, I paid for it already!!!)
So, peeved as hell, I started looking for GOSM's, and when I came back home to here, I only saw 2 pages on the threads, and no info like there was before on where the best deal with the GOSM's are.

On that note, I see some people talking about the Camp Chef Vault, and that looks to be the same size and similar quality? What about everything else? Is one better than the other?

I had a Lowe's smoker that was only 12-16" wide, and I've outgrown that thing......

Let me know. I need to get a propane thermo and some nice Taylor stats as well. I've killed my other ones.....

Thanks in advance!

Now, I remember reading that there were differences between the Wally World one, and ones purchased elsewhere. If there isn't (3605BGD) then I may do that.

Curious as to the differences.

I really wanted to get this ordered and go pick it up. $60 in shipping vs. $12 in tax really isn't a comparison.

Edit: For those of you that have one and need parts: http://www.cfmcustomercare.com/conte...Series_3605BGD

Check out this site...Its the cheapest I've been able to find online. Looks like they have an even bigger one now 36"X24"

I have only had my Smoke Vault for one week and I have never actually seen a GOSM so I can't compare them. Having said that, I am totally satisfied with the Smoke Vault. Our local Gander Mountain has them at $180 right now.

If you have any specific questions about it I would be glad to try to answer them.

been smokin on my 24 '' smoke vault for 2 years now and love it. i dont know anything about the gosm.

Ain't no expert, but, I have a GOSM and love it. Looked at a smoke vault at gander mountain wednesday. Very similar in size and design except I noticed the smoke vault has a rear facing damper, no big deal, but if you wanted to mod it with a smoke stack would be a little harder, not undoable just a few more parts. Otherwise I didn't see a whole lotta difference between them.

Bought my GOSM at wally world for $128 and it is the 3405BGW unit. Treated me right. Never used a smoke vault so can't say bout them. Temp control seems to be good so far on the GOSM, can easily stay at 250* running stat between low and medium. Don't know if temps will run amuck this summer until that weather decides to show up!

It's goin to boil down to personnel choice in this matter. Good luck with your purchase!

I have both os thse models. This may be a long post, but I'll do my best to let yu know what I think of each smoker:
Smoke Vault (24 inch model): It is a heavier gauge metal than the GOSM. It also comes well packaged with no dents. (ask the other GOSM owners about tht!). It also does not have a chip box, it is more of a chip tray. I tried wood chips but was not getting an even smoke, becuase the chips were all spread out, so I went to a local wood supplier and had him cut me some "biscuits". After that, it worked very well. The thermometer on the vault is also more accurate than the one on the the GOSM. I have the smaller GOSM, so I cant tell you if they are the same size. Camp Chef also great customer service. Be sure to register it if you buy the vault.
GOSM (older model): Mine has a good sturdy chip box. You can use chips with the lid on, or chunks with it off. I think the newer models have a smaller chip box, which will have to be dumped and refilled depending on how much smoke flavor you want. Some people just replace it with a larger cake pan. Chances are, when you get it, it may have dents in it from the shipping process. That's just the way it seems with GOSMs for some reason. Thinner metal too. I use my GOSM strictly for butts and it does a great job. Ribs and brisket go in the vault and it does a great job too. I think you will be happy with either one. If I had to choose knowing what I know now????? I would go with the vault. Hope this helps.

A wise man once said "It don't need no tuning plates if it's got a good draw."

Guido, There is a Bass pro shop in Lawrenceville GA, if you want to take the ride. I just did a little research and you would not have to worry about shipping if you chooses the GOSM. I drove about an hour north to get mine at the Bass Pro Shop in Illinois. No dents No problems. Just a suggestion.

I'm on the second year with my Vault. It's just starting to develop a slight crust on the inside. The only problem that I've had is when I was pulling a rack out a ways to baste a ham. The basting sauce and juices dripped down onto the burner control knob. After I was through smoking, I went to clean the stuff off of the knob, and all of the lettering wiped off. I ordered another one, and had it in two days. I'll get the engraving tip for my Dremel Tool and carve the lettering into the new one, in case that happens again. Other than that, I'm loving it. I picked it up at Sportsmans Warehouse in Loveland, CO. No dents or shipping damage, and it only took about an hour to assemble. I picked up a propane tank cover from an RV dealership so I can leave it out in the weather instead of putting it in the shed or garage, and ordered the full cover for the smoker from Camp Chef so it lives outdoors as well. All in all, I'm very happy with the whole rig.

On edit, seen alot about shipping damage to GOSM's, unboxed mine and was in very good condition, no dings or scrapes. The box had a corner torn, so I was a bit apprehinsive at first, but never found anything wrong.

Materialwise, IE: metal weight, I think the one from wally world was about the same gauge as others I have looked at in several stores. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.

Like I said, I have the Lowe's model here now, but I need to expand.

I thought about going to the BPS in Lawrenceville, but that's an hour from me, so it would be a breakeven on the shipping. However, I'm going to Macon next weekend, so I could pick it up from the one down there.

Unless I could get that Vault for the same price you got up there, I don't think I would get one. I have heard complaints on here on the quality of the 3405 vs the 3605 for the WallyWorld one.

If there really isn't a difference, it's a $50 price lower....

Wait, but there are vent and deflector differences too, right?

Guido, are there any BassPro stores within driving distance to you. I drove 1-1/2 hours to one to pick up my GOSM Big Block and I extremely happy with it. My unit was a new one from this yearâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s shipment and for what it is worth it was packaged well.

Yeah, I have one about an hour from me. I'm going south of here to my best friends next weekends (Baby shower) and there is a Bass right near him. I'll go there and pick it up. Need to make sure it fits in the back of the car though.

*sigh*
So I go by the Bass Pro in Macon on the way home and the one I reserved was smacked good in the back. Good deal or not, I didn't want to have to bang it out and possible reweld it. I'll just wait and get another. Sucks.

Any other place to order from besides Bass Pro Shops for local delivery that you guys know of? Since HD won't do it anymore, I'm running out of options.

Looks like the OTHER Bass Pro in Georgia, I'll have to order from now.

OK..... I'll ask again.

Where is the best place to order a GOSM Big Block from that won't kill you on shipping?

I'd prefer to spend around $200 total. Let me know.

Guido, you may find it hard to have a GOSM big block delivereed for $200, the shipping will take your investment beyond your ceiling budget. I'd keep looking around.

On the Smoking Meat store, Jeff is selling one through Amazon for 228.

I think that's going to be my best bet, unless I want to drive an hour and go pick it up at the other Bass Pro. Although, it's a good excuse to go there. :)
