Big Green Egg & Brisket

Any BGE owners know if the Large BGE is big enough to hold a packer's cut brisket? I'm leaning strongly toward buying a BGE but my favorite thing to smoke is brisket. I know the diameter of the grill is 18 1/2" but I've never bothered to measure a brisket before.

Well, that pretty much depends on the size and shape of the brisket, but I think you would be able to get most of them on there with little to no trimming..........but you won't have extra room.

7-9 lber you should be fine. Bigger?,What Fatback said, depends on shape.

I have an 11 lber in the back of my truck (in a cooler with ice wink.gif ) and just went and measured it.............18 inches.........hope that helped

Hey, I finally found an advantage to living in the Midwest during the miserable winters. We DON'T have to use ice to keep stuff cold.

Got a butt and 6 slabs of ribs in there as well if we need any more dimensions. LOL

80 here today, but rain the way........only 71 for a high tomorrow.

Thanks a bunch! The diameter of the Large BGE is 18 1/2 inches so it'd be a tight fit but doable.

That rain blew through here last night.

My preferred place to buy meat is about 25 miles from home, so if I am going out there I go ahead and grab a few things. I was down to one brisket, 3 butts, and 7 or 8 slabs of ribs at home, so clearly a lunch time trip was in order. PDT_Armataz_01_18.gif

It will fit, barely. I would suggest throughout the smoke flipping and rotating it to keep it cooking even. I have only done three so far on my BGE. Keep in mind the natural hot spott on that seems to be at the back end.

Are you using an upside down plate setter? If so maybe put some HD aluminum foil under it to help deflect the heat that gets around the sides of the plate setter.

Take care,

Thanks Reflect. I haven't purchased my BGE yet. I'm trying to figure out which size to get, the Large or the XL. I'm thinking I can get by with the Large.

Now I just got to convince the wife we need it...

Have you ever checked out the Primo grills vs. the BGE? I'm just curious and don't own either. I've just heard a lot of good things about both so I figured if you've compared them.

Thanks. I haven't checked out the Primo. I did check out the Kamodo ( ) and it seemed a lot pricier than the Egg. The Primo seems pretty comparable pricewise. There's a local dealer nearby. I'll have to check it out.

No problem. I'd be very curious to hear what you find out. Good luck and I'm sure you'll enjoy what ever you get.

I've considered something like this as it would be a great winter smoker/cooker.

My buddy has the Kamodo and he does briskets all the time, I know they will fit on that monster.

Primo is relatively new on the ceramic cooker scene. Their factory is in Atlanta. They have a 20 year warranty on their grill. They use an oval shape rather than a circle which allows for a larger cooking space. The Prima Oval XL is larger than the L BGE but I think its a little smaller than the XL BGE. The Primo dealer here does not have any in stock, so I can't check it out.

The BGE has been around for a while and offers a lifetime warranty. Their factory is in Mexico. The BGE seems to have more aftermarket stuff for it than the Primo. Although I imagine you can use alot of the stuff in the Primo. Both are highly rated by their buyers. I haven't found any customer service horror stories for either yet.

One of the things that intrigues me about the Primo is instead of using a plate setter, you split the firebox for indirect cooking & smoking. Pricewise, the Pirmo XL is comparable with the L BGE. Hopefully the store near me gets some in stock soon because I want to see the cooker before making a purchase.
