Does anyone know where I can get a hold of a whole hog in SE Michigan?

I got a whole PDT_Armataz_01_40.gif to feed in a month and would like to do a cold weather pig pickin.

Thanks in advance!

That's a BIG step...but hit downtown...The Eastern Market. Butts and ribs and loins are better bet tho.

Yeah, I know but I do have a relative coming up from STL who has lots of experience doing whole hogs. Eastern Market is a good call, I didn't think of going there. I work in Detroit but usually only go to EM for lunch.

Butts are a lot easier and get more pork for the money. Also lot of waste with a whole hog

I have done two whole hogs, but had to borrow a cooker from a bud. I got both a C Roy's in Yale. Seems it was only just over 100 bucks for about 80-90 pounds.

zzerru, if you do not have a pit, the cinderblock method is really easy....

Your relative might have even used one before if they are familiar with cooking whole hogs.
Also, if you look up feed store in the yellow pages, they might be able to direct you to someone that raises pigs.

Not trying to influence you....LOL! They are easier than you would think.smile.gif

edited to add....If you do not want to buy 30 cinderblocks, you can also bury the hog...http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/for...ead.php?t=9495
