Hey from Alligator Point

Thread Starter
I am a new member from Alligator Point, Florida. I really enjoy smoking meat and bbq. My favorite is pork butt, but I also do fish, beef, most anything that will cook.
Right now I own a big green egg, in the past I have owned a Bradley and a Brinkman electric. I am currently thinking about getting an electric smoker, the big green egg is really nice, but it won’t cold smoke stuff. Problem is I live on the beach and salt corrosion really eats stuff up fast here and I’m not sure I can find an electric that will last. Maybe I can get some ideas from this forum.

Welcome to the SMF, the place where good folks meet and share good times. It sounds like you may be in need of a stainless steel smoker, unless you're into scheduled maintenance. Good luck on your search, and post some pics when you've made your selection.

Welcome to the smf. Lots of great info here. If it was me I would look into one that is stainless steel. Do you have someplace you can store it when your not using it that would be out of the elements? Just thought that might help it last long then if it sits outside all the time. I have an electric little cheif and I store my in my garage when not using it, but I don't have to worry about salt water, just snow and rain up here. Just my 2 cents.

Welcome to SMF !!!
Are you having rust problems with the cabinet of the smoker or corrosion on the electrical connections?

As other mentioned for the cabinet stailess steel would be a good choice. If the problem is with the electrical connections I would suggest spraying them with a protective coating like you would for your car battery terminals.

protective coating

use dielectric grease to protect electrical connections..at napa, autozone, pep boys, etc..also great for protecting trailer plug form the green corrosion.....icon_smile.gif

Welcome to SMF. Go to your local boat/marine store and get a can of corrosive-X. I use it to spray all the elec. terminals on my Mercury 150. Works real good to ward off saltwater corrosion. Good luck.
