Spare Ribs

I have an idea that I wonder would be any good.My son and I ordered some food from the chinese place the other night , and what he had was the orange chicken , he said.It was excellent. I'm thinking about trying to figure out how they make that orange sauce that they put on there , and try it as a finishing glaze for pork spare ribs. Does anyone have an idea as to how they make it? I've entered a couple of cook offs here , and the sweet flavored ribs are what is winning.

I do a peach glaze on my pork ribs (also use it on chicken wings and drums). If you modified it for orange, you would need to play with the liquid quantities to maintain the correct texture, but you're welcome to my recipe as a starting point. I found a similar recipe on the web some time ago that I started with, but I've been tinkering with variations, and this is what I've been the most pleased with:

2 lb. can peaches, drained
1/2 c. dark brown sugar
1/2 c. Honey
2/3 c. catsup
2/3 c. cider vinegar
Dash pepper
4 tbsp. soy sauce
4 cloves garlic
2-3 tsp. ginger
2 tsp. salt
2 tsp Sesame Seeds (sometimes I use Sesame seed oil, but go light on it)

Mix together in a blender. I simmer over the stove on low for about an hour just to reduce it a bit and thicken it up. Then I coat on the ribs during the last hour as needed; usually about every 15 minutes. Very sweet and sticky; very asian.

Also, I've not tried this recipe, but it looks promising (Applebee's Orange Chicken knock off):

Thanks for the recipies , I will try both. I'm ok with peach , orange , or whatever works . I tried putting packs of peach jello in my rub , but I really could'nt taste it in the end. I know a lot of people prefer a spicey flavor , but I'm more towards the sweeter taste on ribs and that seems to be popular around here right now.

i just did some stuffed spares that i glazed with balsamic vinegar and honey and i got to admit they was a mighty tasty

Hey Buddy,
This is a link to a recipe from t-bone tim. It's called sticky apple ribs. It's definitely a sweet finishing sauce, it creates a great glaze! It has apple sauce in the recipe, you can really taste it! Come highly recommended! It won a friendly back yard comp and a rib comp between an un-named husband and wife to decide what recipe to use for the comp! icon_mrgreen.gif
